PokerStars online qualifier Aaron Gustavson has been crowned champion of the European Poker TourÂ's London leg after he defeated Danish World Champion Peter Eastgate heads-up.
The American played impeccably throughout the duration of the £5,300 buy-in Main Event – the biggest ever tournament to be played in the UK at 730 runners strong – and was well worthy of his EPT title and the £850,000 first prize that came with it.
Gustavson emerged victorious after one of the quickest heads-up bouts in EPT history after his battle with Eastgate lasted just seven hands and fifteen minutes. The final blow was struck when the pair got it all-in pre-flop in lightning-quick fashion, with EastgateÂ's A-9 badly trailing to the A-Q of Gustavson.
No help for either player on the board meant that Gustavson scooped the tournamentÂ's final pot with a better ace-high and, in doing so, took down the first major trophy of his career and a bank-roll boosting pay-day to boot.
On winning the tournament, 23-year-old Gustavson told reporters: Â"IÂ'm speechless, totally overwhelmed. I donÂ't think itÂ's going to hit me for a quite a while. Having this title is amazing – a dream come true.Â"
The young online pro, who plays under the ‘Stars handle Â"AguskbÂ", will now take his seat in the seasonÂ's Grand Final in Monte Carlo next year.
