It seems sometime ago now that it was reported that Denmark announced plans to the European Union (EU) that they were planning on dissolving gambling monopolies and would look to regulate the gambling industry in the country.
The EU opposed the action earlier this month as it would create trade barriers and falls short of the EC requirements which included a marketing ban, country restricting residents, and allowing some monopolies to continue.
Denmark now needs to address the issues raised – if they choose not to follow procedure they will be met with infringement proceedings taking up by the Commission. Germany has already suffered the same reaction when they decided to ignore recommendations from the EU.
