Rafa Benitez & Liverpool favourites to win Champions League drop out tournament the Europa League

 | October 23, 2009

LiverpoolÂ's poor form in their Champions League group has seen them face much embarrassment this week, but that is only going to be compounded by news that they have now been installed as favourites to win the Europa League, a competition that they are not even playing in yet!

The ‘strongest losersÂ' exiting the Champions League drop down in the Europa League, and the bookies are so confident that this fate will befall Liverpool that theyÂ've been installed as 9/1 favourites by SkyBet.

Shaktar Donetsk are 12/1 second favourites (PaddyPower), with Roma, who struggled to convince at times on route to a 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage last night, third favourites at 14/1 (Bet365).

Fulham took a 1-0 lead through Brede Hangeland, before the big Norwegian was nearly wrongfully red-carded on the advice of the ‘extra officialÂ' monitoring key penalty area decisions.

The hapless official got it wrong though, in spite of his perfect vantage point. The offender was actually Stephen Kelly, and after much protesting to the referee, Kelly was eventually dismissed instead. Roma went on to claim a draw with the last kick of the game, as Marco Andreolli crashed in a shot from a tight angle.
