Facebook is to launch its first real money gambling app.

Developed by Gibraltar-licensed Gamesys, Bingo Friendzy will be available to UK players over 18 years of age.

The app, which will require a minimum deposit of £10, will not appear on the newsfeeds of under-age users, with Facebook employing age-gating technology to ensure that under-18s donÂ't gain access to the game.

London-based Gamesys currently operate bingo website Jackpot Joy as well as the Sun Bingo and Heart Bingo games.

A Facebook spokeswoman said: "Real money gaming is a popular and well-regulated activity in the UK and we are allowing a partner to offer their games to adult users on the Facebook platform in a safe and controlled manner.Â"

Reports suggest that Facebook are currently in discussions with providers regarding the introduction of other real money gambling games including blackjack and roulette.

Facebook says it has no immediate plans to offer real money gambling in any markets outside of the UK.
