Phil Ivey in the record books after ninth Gold Bracelet

Phil Ivey has won another Gold Bracelet in Event #3 of the 2013 WSOP Asia Pacific. Significantly it his ninth bracelet and means that he is now tied with poker legend Johnny Moss in fourth place in the all-time list of WSOP bracelets.

The first ever World Series of Poker Asia Pacific, held at Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia saw Ivey defeat Brandon Wong to win the $2,200 Mixed Event , which earned the American legend AUD$51,840. It is a sum that will not be as meaningful as a place in the record books for one of the gameÂ's top all-time earners, as the ninth bracelet had eluded Ivey five times during last summer's World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

The most prestigious mark in tournament poker, only Phil Hellmuth (13 bracelets), Doyle Brunson (10) and Johnny Chan (10) have won more bracelets than Ivey. Interestingly all have come in non-hold'em games demonstrating IveyÂ's strength and versatility across multiple variants of poker.

The event saw IveyÂ's good friend Daniel Negreanu beaten into fourth place, with Graeme Putt coming in third. The heads-up between Ivey and Wong was an incredibly hard-fought affair. The two players exchanged the chip lead numerous times over the ensuing hours and Ivey battled back from trailing nearly four-to-one in chips to grind Wong down before securing the title in the 2-7 triple draw lowball round. It was a round that Ivey had dominated all day and a fitting variant to close the tournament.
