With Wimbledon starting its annual two-week journey through the national sporting consciousness, it's fitting that its poker parallel, the $10,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em Championship, concluded this weekend at the Word Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Italian Davide Suriano took home the top prize of $335,553, winning seven consecutive matches and beating Sam Stein in the final round.

A total of 136 players faced off in a head-to head format, with the winner progressing through the bracket towards the final.

The final matchup only lasted 36 hands as Suriano got out to a quick lead and soon held a six-to-one chip advantage.

The last hand saw Stein go all-in with Kd and 7d, and Suriano called with As and 10d.

"If I win this one it's going to be all over," Stein said with a smile before the flop came down.

Suriano hit a pair of 10's, then matched them with a pair of Aces on the turn to take home the top prize and Italy's seventh bracelet in WSOP history.

"This victory is going to change my life," he told PokerNews.

Stein was one of two bracelet winners that Suriano defeated, along with Scott Seiver.

The champion also took care of two online superstars, and heads-up specialists in Dan Â"jungleman12Â" Cates and Daniel Â"mrgr33n13Â" Coleman.
