Martin Jacobson has won the 2014 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event title at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, making himself $10m richer in the process.
The Swedish player had previously held the position of chip leader on day 1A of the event, before going on to defy history and win his first live tournament, while also becoming the first Swede to win the WSOP Main Event title.
Having returned to the final table in eighth place after booking his place in the November Nine in July, he managed to build his short stack and secure a place in the final three, who returned the following day.
The 27-year-old completed his capture of the golden bracelet after four hours of play, knocking out third-placed Jorryt van Hoof of the Netherlands and Norwegian Felix Stephenson in heads-up play, with this year being the first in the history of the event that Europeans held all of the top three positions.
Jacobson, who is based in London, said: Â"This is what I played for, this is all the mattered to me".
The tournament began with 6,683 players, who paid a buy-in of $10,000 and were whittled down to nine after seven days and 70 hours of play.
The final table hosted players from six nations, including world foosball champion Billy Pappaconstantinou, who finished fifth, and Mark Newhouse, who reached the final table for the second consecutive year before finishing ninth, the same position as last year.
