Cade claims maiden WPT title win

South AfricaÂ's Ben Cade has won his first WPT title by finishing first at the Season XIV WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic in Johannesburg.

Cade claimed the top prize of R1.38m (approximately $100,000), after defeating Mark Lifman on the first hand of heads-up play.

Lifman shoved all-in with A-K off suit when Cade four-bet to 375,000 and was snap-called by Cade with K-K.

CadeÂ's pocket kings held out as he claimed prize money over 14 times higher than his previous total WPT earnings.

It was the first time Cade had made the final table of a WPT event and his only other previous WPT cash was in the same event in 2013, when he finished 18th and won $6,738.

Cade has also been granted a $15,400 seat into the WPT World Championship at the end of the season.

Lifman, who cashed in a WPT event for the first time, claimed runner-up prize money of R797,200.

A total of 135 players entered the Emperors Palace Poker Classic and the total prize pool was over R4.3m.

There are five WPT Main Tour events left to be played this year, with the first of which being the PartyPoker WPT UK at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker & Casino in Nottingham, which begins on Tuesday.
