Phoenix Suns at Miami Heat - Betting Preview for March 9th

 | March 8, 2022

In what could be a preview of the NBA Finals, the Phoenix Suns take on the Miami Heat

The Phoenix Suns are still atop the Western Conference and have a sizable lead. The next closest team is the Memphis Grizzlies and their eight games behind. However, some key injuries could hurt their chances to win this game. Devin Booker sat out last night against the Orlando Magic, could he be sidelined again tonight? His availability could mean a win or a loss.

The Miami Heat are the leaders in the Eastern Conference, but not by much. The Heat currently has a three-game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers, but they're closing in quickly. This game against the Suns could be a chance for the Heat to create some distance. The good news for Miami is that they're pretty much back to full strength, a great sign for this game.

Phoenix Suns: Phoenix will be in trouble if Booker is out

If Devin Booker is sidelined again the Suns will be without their leading scorer. This season, Booker has averaged 25.6 points per game, along with 4.6 assists. Chris Paul is already out, leaving them with minimal scoring. For the Suns to win this game, they'll need to have Booker in the lineup. They faced the Milwaukee Bucks a few nights ago without him and lost 132-122.

In their last three games against Miami, the Suns have gone 2-1. Their most recent game, however, was a 123-100 loss at home. This time, they'll have to travel to Miami to face the Heat after just facing the Orlando Magic. Back-to-back games on the road won't help the Suns chances of winning this game.

Miami Heat: Miami will lean on its defense to win this game

The Miami Heat have a fairly strong offense, but their true bread and butter is their defense. Ranked fourth in the NBA, the Heat allow an average of 104.62 points per game. With one of the best defenses in the NBA, it's no surprise that they lead the Eastern Conference. Their most recent win over the 76ers proved just how incredible their defense is.

Facing both James Harden and Joel Embiid, the Miami Heat held the 76ers to just 82 points. Having the ability to keep high-scoring teams under 90 points puts them in a great position to win. Not only that, the Miami Heat are incredible at covering the spread this season. Overall, they have a 39-26-1 record against the spread this year.

Betting Prediction for the Phoenix Suns at Miami Heat

The important thing to remember when betting on this game is Miami's defense. Considering the injuries dealt to the Suns lineup, Phoenix will have a hard time covering. Miami has also been on quite the streak at the sportsbook lately, even covering spreads at 16.5 points.

They won't be favored by nearly as much when they face the Suns, giving them the best chance to cover. Miami's a much better team at home, and the Suns will be playing on back-to-back days. The best bet in this one is the Miami Heat to win the game and cover the spread.
