Linebacker Bobby Wagner and the Los Angeles Rams reach a five-year deal

 | April 1, 2022

The contract could be worth up to $65m depending on incentives set by the LA Rams.

Although his time with the Seattle Seahawks came to a close, Bobby Wagner will be staying in the NFC West. Wagner was released by the Seahawks in March but has now signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

The exact financial details weren't disclosed, but it was reported to ESPN's Adam Schefter that the five-year deal is for $50m and can be worth up to $65m if Wagner reaches incentives.

Wagner was born in Los Angeles, making this somewhat of a homecoming. He's also joining an incredible defense led by defensive tackle Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Donald (5), Wagner (4) and Ramsey (3) have all earned at least three first-team All-Pro nods over the last five seasons. According to ESPN Stats & Information, only six defensive players in the NFL have achieved that feat over that time period.

Two other teams were in the mix to sign Wagner, the Baltimore Ravens, and Dallas Cowboys. It would seem that the allure of playing for the reigning Super Bowl Champions and the contract lured Wagner to Los Angeles.

Wagner is Seattle's all-time tackles leader with 1,383, last season he notched 170 tackles, earning him another Pro Bowl visit. In 2021, Wagner made his eighth Pro Bowl in ten years, all at the age of 31.

In 2020, Wagner was one of 22 defenders named by the Pro Football Hall of Fame to the All-Decade Team for the 2010s. Already considered to be a future Hall of Famer, his resume includes six first-team All-Pro selections, two second-team All-Pro selections, with eight Pro Bowls nods, tied for second-most in Seattle franchise history.

We'll have to wait for next season to see just how effective Wagner will be for the Los Angeles Rams.
