MLB Games to Watch: May 5, Picks & Predictions
Ricky Gray | May 5, 2022
We've spotted three games that bettors should place wagers on today.
Although we're still at the beginning of the season, Major League Baseball has been nothing short of exciting. Today, we have three games that we believe will give bettors the best chance to win at the sportsbook.
Washington Nationals vs. Colorado Rockies - 3:10 PM ET
Our first game of the day features the Washington Nationals taking on the Colorado Rockies. Washington is 9-17 this season and already took a 5-2 loss to the Rockies. However, they started this series with a 10-2 win and had an 11-5 win over the San Francisco Giants the game before. The question is, can Aaron Sanchez lead them to a victory today?
With Sanchez on the mound for the Nationals, the Rockies will start Antonio Senzatela. Senzatela is 2-1 this season and has a 3.66 ERA, which is much better than Sanchez's 6.75. The Rockies also have a better batting group than the Nationals, leaving us having more confidence in Colorado.
Ricky's Pick - Colorado Rockies -140
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Cleveland Guardians - 6:10 PM ET
Following the Nationals at the Rockies is the Toronto Blue Jays versus the Cleveland Guardians. The Blue Jays are 16-10 this season, with a 6-4 record on the road. Toronto comes off of a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees last night and now faces the 11-13 Cleveland Guardians. The 2-0 Jose Berrios gets the start today and he'll be tasked with slowing down the Guardians batters.
As a team, the Cleveland Guardians are batting .252, ranking third in Major League Baseball. They'll hope that their batters can make up for the 0-2 Aaron Civale taking the mound to start the game. Civale has a 10.67 ERA over the course of 14.1 innings pitched. Even with the poor pitching, we like the Guardians to pull this one out.
Ricky's Pick - Cleveland Guardians +140
New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies - 6:45 PM ET
The last game we'll cover today is between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets ran into trouble yesterday against the Braves, losing 9-2 at home. Now, they'll head out on the road to face the Phillies who they've lost to a few times already. In his first start of the year, Taijuan Walker will take the mound against the Phillies batters.
The Phillies have lost four of their last five games, the most recent game being a 2-1 loss to the Texas Rangers. Aaron Nola, 1-3 this season, will get the start on the mound tonight. The Mets are 9-4 on the road so far this season, we expect them to increase it to 10 wins tonight.
Ricky's Pick - New York Mets +140
