On Thursday, Major League Baseball announced a partnership with Sorare to build an NFT-based fantasy-style game. Sorare is an NFT gaming company, which already has a version of this for soccer leagues.

It's an interesting idea because the format of the game will have users play fantasy games while purchasing, selling, and collecting NFTs of MLB players. It also won't be a "draft-style" game, players teams will be based on NFTs owned.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said: "The connections we build with our fans are vital and Sorare understands the importance of that bond."

He continued: "The company's focus on transforming fandom through an innovative combination of sports, technology, and gaming to let fans truly own a piece of the game they love is unique and goes beyond borders -- allowing us to bring the love of baseball to more fans across the globe."

The actual details of the game haven't been released. However, as we mentioned above, Sorare is familiar with building these types of games. They have partnerships with soccer leagues such as the Bundesliga, Copa America, and Major League Soccer that included a multitude of rewards for those collecting NFTs.

In fact, one instance saw fans win NFT cards that unlocked tickets to games, this is something the MLB could look to employ. Sorare currently has 1.8 million registered users on the platform, covering 184 countries.

Tony Clark stated: "Sorare has built a new baseball gaming experience that will excite fans around collecting players' NFTs, building winning lineups and competing against baseball fans all over the world." Clark is the Executive Director of the Major League Baseball Players Association.

He continued: "We are very excited about our partnership and the effect Sorare's first foray into North American sports will have on the growth of our game globally."
