After his performance against the Dallas Mavericks, Curry was the clear choice for the award.

This is the first year that the NBA has awarded the Western Conference Finals MVP trophy and it's gone to none other than Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.

The league has introduced two new trophies, the one for the Eastern Conference is named after Larry Bird. The Warriors have advanced to the NBA Finals after eliminating the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.

Curry was a unanimous choice for the award, averaging 23.8 points, 7.4 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 43.9% shooting from the 3-point line. He was the main focus for the Mavericks defense as well, which helped opened up his teammates.

Head Coach of the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr said: "He's our engine offensively. Everything revolves around him. We got a lot of great players around him and guys who fit well together. It all starts with Steph."

Kerr continued: "He just creates so much havoc for the defense, that even on a night like tonight where he doesn't shoot the ball that well, he forces rotations and frees up other players."

Nine media members were chosen to vote on the Western Conference Finals MVP, Curry landed all nine of the votes.

In regards to the trophy, Curry said: "The new trophy is pretty cool, especially with who it's named after, the standard that Magic set in terms of being a champion and playing the point guard position, whatever other position he played. Just the excellence that he demonstrated throughout his entire career."

Through the 2019-2020 season, Curry missed 60 games due to a fractured left hand. Because of this and a few other key injuries, the Warriors missed the playoffs for two straight seasons.

Now, with the return of Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the Warriors are heading back to the NBA Finals with their eyes on another championship.
