TE David Njoku signs a four-year deal with the Cleveland Browns

Njoku's agent confirmed that the tight end will receive $28m in guaranteed money.

In a relatively shocking deal, the Cleveland Browns have signed tight-end David Njoku to a four-year $56.75m contract. Njoku's agent, Agent Malki Kawa confirmed the deal on social media.

Although Njoku was franchise-tagged earlier in the offseason, it would seem that the Browns have decided to keep Njoku on the team for a while. This four-year contract includes $28m in guaranteed money and had until July 15 to agree to a long-term contract.

Njoku is 25 years old and has tallied 148 receptions over five seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Last season, Njoku had 36 catches for 475 yards and four touchdowns.

With the new deal in place, he's become one of the NFL's top five highest-paid tight ends. Njoku will also have a new quarterback this season with Deshaun Watson getting the start.

At the moment, the Browns are the only team in the NFL that have a quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end that all rank in the top seven at their position in guaranteed money.

Although the deal is quite a large one, we expected the Browns to find a way to keep Njoku on the team. He ranked first in the league among tight ends in terms of yards per target. Njoku also tied for first in yards after the catch per target (6.7 yards).

He'll rejoin the team that has added Amari Cooper into their receiving corps as well, which should help Njoku prosper.

The Browns have also made a few defensive moves as well, bringing defensive end Jadeveon Clowney back to the team. Although it's only for a one-year contract, Clowney should help the team quite a bit in 2022.

The Cleveland Browns will open the season against the Carolina Panthers in Carolina on September 11, 2022.
