Wide receiver Terry McLaurin will be in Washington for at least three more years after his latest extension. To keep him with the team through the 2025 season, the Commanders added on a $28m signing bonus as well.

The details of the deal will see McLaurin on a three-year contract that is worth up to $71m in new money, making him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.

Agents Buddy Baker and Tony Bonagura of Exclusive Sports Group closed the deal on Tuesday with Washington Senior VP of Football Operations Rob Rogers. Of the new money, 76.4% of it is guaranteed to McLaurin.

McLaurin had skipped the three weeks of voluntary OTAs as well as the team's mandatory three-day minicamp. By closing this deal, he'll return to the team and the Commanders get to keep their best receiver on the roster.

Although he missed OTAs and the mandatory camp, Washington didn't waver on its desire to sign McLaurin and didn't consider trading him. McLaurin now joins the rest of the wide receivers in the NFL that received blockbuster deals.

McLaurin tallied 1,000 yards receiving in two of his first three seasons after being selected in the third round of 2019. Last season, he caught 77 passes for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns.

He'll have a new quarterback this season, something McLaurin is used to by now. However, the Commanders hope that Carson Wentz will be the answer at the QB position for them going forward. The only trouble with Wentz is that he has a hard time staying healthy.

The team finished with a 7-10 record last season and will open the 2022-23 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 11.

In the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders selected WR Jahan Dotson from Penn State. Dotson should compliment McLaurin well, allowing both receivers to prosper this season.
