MLB Games of the Day: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees & Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels

 | July 16, 2022

Tune in to catch Nick Pivetta of the Red Sox trying to win two in a row tonight.

As always, the MLB has been putting on some incredible games lately. However, there are two games that we think are must-watch games tonight. These games will place you right in the action of the AL East and a turf battle in Los Angeles.

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees - 7:15 PM ET

Getting started with our MLB games of the day is the Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees. Yesterday, the Red Sox pulled off an incredible 5-4 win in the 11th inning of the game. This time, they'll try to get an early lead and keep it as the Yankees can be a dangerous team.

Nick Pivetta (8-6) will get the start for the Red Sox tonight. Pivetta has an ERA of 4.08 over the course of 103.2 innings. Beating the Yankees is never easy but Pivetta gives the Red Sox a great chance. Along with that, the Red Sox batters are among the best in Major League Baseball. With a team batting average of .258, they rank third overall.

The Yankees will send out the 9-2 Jameson Taillon to take the mound tonight. Taillon has an ERA of 4.01, similar to Pivetta, but a much better win/loss record. The Yankees have struggled lately, losing four of their last five games. Two of these losses were to the Cincinnati Reds, one of the worst teams in the league.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels - 10:07 PM ET

The battle for Los Angeles continues tonight as the Dodgers face the Angels again. Yesterday, the Dodgers made very quick work of the Angels, beating them 9-1. They'll look to repeat their performance tonight with Julio Urias (7-6) on the mound. Urias has an ERA of 3.01 over the course of 89.2 innings, but has struggled to earn wins.

The good news is the Dodgers have a strong batting group led by Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Trea Turner. With those three together, it might not matter what the Angels are able to do tonight.

Jose Suarez will get the start on the mound for the Angels tonight. Suarez has a record of 1-3 this season with an ERA of 4.79. As a team, the Angels have a batting average of .230, pairing that with poor pitching and you'll find a recipe for a loss tonight.
