Green Bay Packers extend HC Matt LaFleur & top executives

Both GM Brian Gutekunst and Executive Vice President Russ Ball received extensions.
Although it was kept pretty quiet, the Green Bay Packers reached an extension with their head coach, general manager, and executive vice president.
Terms of the deal were also kept pretty quiet but GM Brian Gutekunst Executive Vice President Russ Ball and Head Coach Matt LaFleur will be with the Packers for the foreseeable future.
Before the extensions were confirmed, Packers President Mark Murphy said: “I'll just say I'm confident not only Matt and Brian but Russ Ball will continue to be Packers' employees for years to come.”
Murphy added: “I'd prefer to keep [contract extensions] internal, but obviously you can see from my comments [to the shareholders] that I feel like they're doing an outstanding job.”
The Packers are 45-19-1 since Gutekunst replaced former GM Ted Thompson. This includes a 39-10 record under Matt LaFleur. That record surpassed George Seifert (who was 38-10 from 1989 to '91) for the most wins by an NFL head coach in his first three seasons.
The Packers have been to the NFC Championship game twice and lost each time. Now that they’ve lost Davante Adams, the Packers will have an even tougher time reaching those heights.
The good news is that future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers signed a three-year $150m deal with the team. This should give them a few more shots at a Super Bowl title.
Rodgers has only one title under his belt and is likely hoping to go out on top with another under his belt. The Packers will need to add a few more players to make this happen for him.
The Green Bay Packers will open their 2022-23 season against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at 4:25 PM ET.
