Mets come off a 6-0 win over the Phillies to kick off this NL East showdown.
The NL East is led by the New York Mets who have a 75-40 record this season. After beating the Philadelphia Phillies 6-0, the Mets will set their eyes on the Atlanta Braves.
The Atlanta Braves have a 70-46 record and are second in the NL East. Following closely behind the Mets, Atlanta has won six straight games.
Although they still have a lot of ground to make up, the Braves are closing in fast. This four-game series could be exactly what the Braves need to close the gap.
New York will send out one of its best pitchers in Carlos Carrasco, to start today’s game. Carrasco has a record of 13-4 with an ERA of 3.76 this season.
In the span of 124.1 innings, Carrasco has thrown 123 strikeouts and allowed 13 home runs. He’ll need to be at his best as he takes on the Atlanta Braves lineup tonight.
It’s also important to remember just how strong the Mets are at the plate this season. With a .259 batting average, the Mets rank fourth in Major League Baseball.
They also rank second in on-base percentage (OBP) at .330 and 10th in slugging percentage at .409. Needless to say, the Mets know how to get runners on base and put up runs.
The Atlanta Braves also have a lot of skill at the plate this season. They have an average of .251, ranking ninth overall and have an OBP of .315.
Getting the start on the mound tonight is Spencer Strider, another strong pitcher. Strider has an ERA of 3.11 and a record of 6-4 this season.
On the road, the Mets have a record of 35-21 this season. They come into this game as +130 underdogs but we like those odds. We’ll take Carrasco and the Mets on the road over the Atlanta Braves.
