Texas Rangers at Houston Astros Betting Preview

 | September 7, 2022

With the series tied at 1-1, tonight's game will decide the series.

After a 4-3 win over the Houston Astros, the Texas Rangers are hoping to conclude the series with a win and increase their series to 60-76.

Currently fourth in the AL West, the Rangers have gone just 1-4 over their last five games. Tonight, the Rangers come into this game as +228 underdogs and are 31-38 on the road.

Getting the start tonight is Cole Ragans, who has a 0-2 record with a 4.42 ERA. He’s pitched only 18.1 innings, and Ragans has only thrown nine strikeouts and allowed 18 hits.

As a team, the Rangers have a batting average of .242 with an on-base percentage of .305 this season. Compared to the Astros, the Rangers measure pretty closely when it comes to batting.

The big difference here is when it comes to pitching. The Houston Astros is Cristian Javier, who has an 8-9 record this season and a 3.07 ERa.

Through 120.1 innings, Javier has thrown 157 strikeouts and has allowed 16 home runs this season. With Javier on the mound, the Astros have the edge on the mound today.

At the plate, the Astros have a team batting average of .245 and an on-base percentage of .318.

Between these two groups, we think the much better choice tonight will be the Astros at home. They’ve gone 44-21 at home this season and are coming off of a tough loss.

Look for them to bounce back and close the series with a win tonight.
