Coming in as heavy favorites, the Cardinals look to secure another win.

news

With the Washington Nationals posting a 48-88 record, the Nationals have won three out of their last five games. One of these wins was actually against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In yesterday’s game, however, the Nationals lost 4-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals. On the road this season, the Nationals have gone 26-41, so keep that in mind for tonight’s game.

Getting the start on the mound tonight for Washington is Cory Abbott, who is 0-2. Abbott has an ERA of 4.39 this season and has thrown 24 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.

Through this time, he’s allowed 19 hits and six home runs. It’s not an awful showing for Abbott but he’ll definitely need to be better on the mound today.

At the plate, the Nationals have performed remarkably well, with an average of .250. As a team, they have an on-base percentage of .314, which is also pretty strong.

The question is can their batting lineup do enough to get a win over the Cardinals? St. Louis also has a strong batting lineup with a much better pitcher on the mound.

Getting the start on the mound tonight for the Cardinals is Jordan Montgomery, who has an 8-3 record with a 3.15 ERA this season.

Through 151.1 innings, Montgomery has thrown 129 strikeouts allowing just 16 home runs. The Cardinals have gone 4-1 over their last five games and we think they’ll add another tonight.

With Montgomery on the mound and a strong batting lineup, the Cardinals should be able to earn a win here. They have a .257 batting average, one of the best in the league, so we’ll take them at home over the Cardinals.
