Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees Betting Pick

 | September 8, 2022

SP Sonny Gray (7-4) takes the mound for the Twins tonight.

The Minnesota Twins went from the top of the AL Central to second place with a record of 68-67. Unfortunately, their last three losses were all to the New York Yankees.

They’ll play New York again tonight and the question has to be asked whether they actually stand a chance to win this game.

On the mound is Sonny Gray, who is 7-4 with an ERA of 3.10. Gray gives the Twins the best chance to win this game but even he has had his struggles.

At the plate, the Twins have a team batting average of .248, slightly better than the Yankees. Their best batter is Luis Arraez, who has a .314 average and a .377 on-base percentage.

Byron Buxton leads the team with 28 home runs but has a batting average of .224 this season, one of the team's worst.

Through their last five games, the Twins have gone 1-4 with losses to the Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. Things aren’t looking good for the Twins, especially on the road.

The New York Yankees have a 48-20 record at home this season, with an 83-54 record overall. They’ve gone 4-1 over their last four games and are starting the 9-4 Nestor Cortes.

Cortes has an ERA of 2.68 over the course of 131 innings and has thrown 133 strikeouts. With Cortes on the mound, the Yankees have a chance to complete the sweep over the Twins.

Although the Twins have a slight edge at the plate, the Yankees are overall a better team. Minnesota has gone 28-38 on the road this season as well, so keep that in mind.

We’ll go with the Yankees to win tonight’s game.
