There will be match-play head-to-head knockout playoffs to end the season.
LIV Golf is having another huge tournament and this time it’s a season-ending championship with a $50m purse.
These golfers will compete for the richest purse in the sport's history, scheduled to be played at Trump National Doral Miami from Oct. 27-30.
Twelve four-man teams will also compete for a $16m first-place prize. The teams will be seeded one through 12. The top four seeds will receive a bye to the quarterfinals while the other eight will compete in qualifying rounds.
A closest-to-the-pin shootout by the team captains will determine the seeding for the tournaments. Team captains will participate in the shootout directly after players are drafted.
According to the rules: “The Team whose Team Captain's shot finishes closest to the target will be designated as the first (1st) seed and each remaining Team will be seeded based on the proximity to the target of each other Team Captain's shot.”
A LIV Golf spokesperson told ESPN on Tuesday that all of the details of the team championship were still being finalized and would be released in the future.
Some aren’t a fan of LIV Golf, including a long-time PGA Tour player.
The player, who remained anonymous, told ESPN: “It's very unsurprising that they would pick something so tacky and unoriginal to try and expand the game.
“It's f---ing lame is what it is. It's lame as s---. It's XFL. It's AND1 Mixtape Tour. It's not competitive golf. It's a circus.”
Again, to no surprise, a PGA golfer is upset with something that LIV Golf is doing. It’s clear that the rift is going on between these two leagues with no sign of cohesion in the future.
