After suffering what appeared to be a concussion, Tua Tagovialoa returned quickly.
Tua Tagovialoa delivered a strike to Jaylen Waddle but took a tough blow to the head in the process. When he got up and began to walk, he collapsed quickly.
He was rushed to the locker room and was regarded as questionable to return with a head injury. However, he returned from the locker room and took the field rather quickly.
The protocol's sideline concussion assessment involves a six-step process that tests the player for any "no-go" signs, a video review of the play, and a review of concussion signs and symptoms.
There’s also an inquiry regarding the history of the event, all Maddocks questions and a focused neurological exam.
If any element of these sideline assessments comes back positive or inconclusive, the player must be taken to the locker room for a full comprehensive review, which Tagovialoa was.
The quarterback said it had more to do with his back tightening up than a head injury. However, when you watch the play, Tagovialoa looks as if he suffered a hard hit to the head.
Stumbling as he did to stand or walk wouldn’t look to be the result of a sore back.
He told reporters: “It was sore when it did happen. But I mean, any competitor that would've never wanted to come out would've did the same thing.”
“So I was just trying my hardest to get back up and get the next play and run it.”
Tagovailoa finished the day with 186 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 13 of 18 attempts.
Tests will be run today to see whether he can return in Week 5 but the NFL Players Association is also launching its own investigation.
