The linebacker suffered a groin tear in the first quarter of Sunday's game.
Both Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa and left tackle Rashawn Slater were placed on the IR on Wednesday afternoon.
After suffering a groin tear in the first quarter of Sunday’s game, the Chargers will be without Bosa for some time. They ended up losing on Sunday, 38-10 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Derwin James, safety for the Chargers, said: “It's a tough loss for our defense. But it's on us to have his back and hold things down until he gets situated.”
Head coach Brandon Staley believes that Bosa will be able to return this season.
Staley commented: “It's going to be a ways, but we expect him to come back. He's optimistic and ready to attack it. He's in a really good frame of mind. It's never easy when you have an injury like that.”
Second-year Chris Rumph II and veteran linebacker Kyle Van Noy are expected to step in while Bosa is out. To replace Rashawn Slater, rookie Jamaree Salyer will step in.
Of Rumph, Staley said: “He's ready to play on the edge.”
Bosa has 1.5 sacks in three games this season. He has 59.5 sacks in seven seasons.
Staley continued: “What we're trying to do is keep the sides the same, keep continuity. For us, we feel like that is the best option for us going into this game plan.”
Salyer also added: “It means a lot to me that my coaches and teammates believe in me enough to give me the opportunity.”
