Commanders QB Taylor Heinicke starting over Carson Wentz

Wentz is still not practicing, giving Heinicke another chance to grab a win.

It would seem that at least for this week, the Washington Commanders don’t need to decide who their starting quarterback will be.

Taylor Heinicke will once again get the start as Carson Wentz was unable to practice this week. This is good news for Heinicke as he tries to secure his position as the starter.

The Commanders, who have a 5-5 record, are 3-1 with Heinicke under center. Although Wentz has been cleared to start throwing the ball again, he hasn’t been cleared to return to full action.

Head Coach Ron Rivera commented: “We have time. [Heinicke] has done some good things and we'll see what happens this week. It's not just about the individual as much as [how] it affects the team. Having this situation is a pretty good one; it's a good problem to have.”

Heinicke is the locker room inspiration that the Commanders need. Sure, his stats aren’t incredible but he makes up for it with his fearless play.

He also doesn’t seem to be concerned with keeping the starting job but wants to see his team win more than anything else.

Heinicke added: “Coach told me I was up this week, so I'm doing everything I can to prepare for Houston and try to get a win. The team is playing really well right now ... I hope to keep this thing rolling and let's see what happens.”

Even better news for the Commanders is Chase Young could return to the field soon. Young tore his right ACL but could be cleared to return to the team in a limited capacity this week.
