Patrick Beverley ejected in loss to Suns

After shoving Suns center Deandre Ayton, the guard was tossed from the game.

Patrick Beverley took action against a few Phoenix Suns players last night and at one point shoved center Deandre Ayton to the ground.

According to Beverley, his actions were prompted by how the Suns players were treating Austin Reaves. To be fair, the Suns were getting chippy with Reaves throughout the game.

Beverley said: “Got a person on the ground, two people looking over mean-mugging and puffing their chest out and referees don't get into it to kind of separate it, control the game, so I'm going to stand up for my teammate.”

After Devin Booker was called for a foul on Reaves, Deandre Ayton stood over Reaves (who was on the floor), and this is when Beverley sprang into action.

He shoulder-charged Ayton, knocking Ayton to the ground, then he stood over Ayton.

Beverley continued: “Obviously, it's unfortunate that it happened on national TV. But you know me: Regardless of what's going on, I'm a big fan of protecting my teammates.

“I'm a foxhole guy. I put on the jersey, and I commit to a team, I commit to a city, and it's kind of my motto. I'm a foxhole guy.”

Reaves also commented: “I really didn't see much after I got hit in the nose. I thought I was bleeding, so I was on the ground. And when I did turn around, I saw Pat have my back, which I love.”

As always, Phoenix Suns players and coaches disagreed with Beverley’s actions.

Suns’ head coach Monty Williams said: “I just think the league needs to take a look at those kinds of plays; they're just unnecessary.”

He didn’t comment on how his players standing over Reaves after a foul could be considered “unnecessary”, however.
