Boston Bruins set another NHL record

The team has won its 12th straight home game to open the season.

The Boston Bruins have another record under their belt as they’ve set the NHL record for the most home wins in a row to start the season.

The Bruins broke the 11-win mark that was set by the 1963-64 Chicago Blackhawks and equaled last season by the Florida Panthers.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said: “That felt awesome. We talked about it after the second [period] going into the third.

“There's been a lot of great teams in this league, and you're able to set a precedent, break a record. It's pretty special, and it doesn't happen if those guys don't believe in themselves like they do.”

The record was in jeopardy last night as the Bruins went into the third period down 2-0. At the 9:33 mark in the third period, David Krejci scored his second goal, tying the game.

Krejci added: “It's never fun being down going into the third; you're sitting [in the locker room] trying to figure it out.

“You want to come out and do the job, something special on the line. It's hard to win in this league. To get 12 in a row at home is pretty special.”

The Bruins also on Friday honored captain Patrice Bergeron, who recorded his 1,000th career point when the team was on the road Monday against Tampa Bay. The crowd gave Bergeron a standing ovation and a message to the captain was placed on the video board.

Bergeron is the fourth Bruin to reach 1,000 points, joining Hall of Famers Ray Bourque (1,506), Johnny Bucyk (1,339) and Phil Esposito (1,012).
