The former Super Bowl champions desperately need a quarterback.
In our opinion, it might be too late for the Los Angeles Rams to make a push toward the playoffs but that’s not stopping them from trying.
They’ve claimed Baker Mayfield off of the waivers, a move that isn’t a shock but might not work out in their favor.
Mayfield originally asked to be waived from the Carolina Panthers after finding out he wouldn’t be the starting quarterback or the backup going forward.
The Panthers agreed to let him go, allowing both parties to agree to his departure. The Rams will inherit the remaining $1.35m on Mayfield's contract.
It isn’t very likely that Mayfield will start this week for the Los Angeles Rams, the team he was picked up by. For the Rams, it seems to be more of a personnel move as their quarterbacks continue to get hurt.
Rams Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen said: “It's just kind of acquiring talent, to be honest, and acquiring somebody to come in and evaluate him, but also our offense.
“Continuing to evaluate the offense [and] the other players. It's more so about acquiring talent. Just getting somebody in here that we can continue to develop some competitive nature within the room.”
Saturday the Rams put starting quarterback Matthew Stafford on injured reserve because of a spinal cord contusion.
Coen added: “If it is something that can provide a spark and somebody that can come in and help us compete to win football games, that's the ultimate goal for the last five weeks of the season.”
