The Rams may have found their temporary answer at quarterback.

Standing at the podium after a 17-16 comeback win over the Las Vegas Raiders was Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay.

He laughed and started with: “Just like we drew it up.”

This was not only an impressive performance by McVay who called a solid fourth-quarter drive that won his team the game but for new quarterback Baker Mayfield as well.

Mayfield was with the team for a limited time after being picked up around 48 hours before this Thursday night game.

Mayfield came off the bench after Los Angeles' first series, replacing starting quarterback John Wolford, which wasn’t very surprising due to Wolford’s performance.

He then led the team on a 98-yard game-winning drive, ending with a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Van Jefferson with 10 seconds left on the clock.

Mayfield said: “I don't know if you can write it any better than that. Obviously, we'd like to be a little bit more stress-free, but it's a pretty damn good story, I'll be honest with you.”

Elias Sports Bureau stated the 98-yard drive was the longest go-ahead touchdown drive that began in the final two minutes over the past 45 seasons.

McVay continued: “You can't say enough about Baker Mayfield and the leadership, the resilience [and] the competitiveness.

“And what a quick study. I mean, he just got here five minutes ago and figured out a way to be able to do some special things tonight.”

After flying from Carolina to Los Angeles, Mayfield said the transition was “pretty hectic.”

He added: “Right now I've just got a lot of emotions, but I'm really, really blessed and I'm really thankful right now, especially just the guys here that welcomed me in and helped me do the crash course here.”
