The Philadelphia Eagles starter will be replaced by Gardner Minshew.
Jalen Hurts, the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been ruled out for this weekend’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Head Coach Nick Sirianni said Thursday: “Jalen did everything he possibly could to get his body ready to go.
“And at the end of the day, he's not going to be able to do it. He tried like crazy. And I know he still wants to go. Jalen Hurts is the toughest player I've ever been around.”
Hurts missed Tuesday's walkthrough and Wednesday's practice after injuring his shoulder against a game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Although he’s received treatment on the shoulder this week, Hurts was unable to return to action in time to take the field against the Cowboys.
If they beat Dallas on Saturday the Eagles would secure the division as well as the top seed in the NFC, tasked with the responsibility now, Gardner Minshew.
Sirianni continued: “Gardner will be our guy and Gardner will be ready. Gardner worked his butt off for this opportunity against a really good football team. He had a great practice [Wednesday].”
Sirianni was also asked about Hurts’ availability next week when they face the New Orleans Saints, he indicated that it would be a day-by-day process.
According to multiple players, Minshew manned the first-team offense at Wednesday's practice and had a strong showing. He’s stepped in as the Eagles starter before and went 20-of-25 and threw two touchdowns for an injured Hurts last December against the Jets.
Hurts’ injury isn’t considered to be a long-term one but he could miss next week’s game.
