Marble Race review: What to expect, features and gameplay Slot Review

marbleracecover
… Ready, set, go! Those marbles are racing down the track as we speak, yellow has taken the racing line but, oh! Green charges ahead for the final leg!

Evolution has captured the magic of Marble Racing and combined it with pachinko to create a fun and interactive live game show experience for online casinos.

Whether you’ve already been introduced to the wonderful and whacky world of Marble Racing beforehand, or if this is your first time, then you’re in for a treat. The aptly-titled Marble Race online casino game lets you wager on which of these plucky marbles will make it through the obstacle course and past the finish line first.

Marble Race overview

Marble Race is imbued with the same levels of charm that recent Evolution live game show titles have become known for. The producers behind this title have thought of everything, from the course, to the different ways that players might want to wager on the marbles themselves. The premise is simple, you bet on a particular color, then you see if your marble makes it through the racecourse first.

There are six marbles in play: Black, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green and White. They are identical in colour and don’t exhibit the same nostalgic glass markings that many of us are used to with Marble Racing - but these have to be strictly regulated, so we’re not surprised to see them use purpose-built marbles for this title and not just any old marbles. The other downside is that the colors can be a bit similar if you’re colorblind, but there’s no real way to distinguish the marbles any other way during the race without covering them in different symbols (which would be hard to track as they rolled around anyway!).

There aren’t any bonus features in this online casino game, which is a shame, but it might’ve been difficult to regulate them and keep them fair. The first ones that come to mind would’ve been activating more obstacles or opening up shortcuts - like a pinball machine - but who knows whether this would’ve gotten past the lawyers. We’re sure that if this was an option, then Evolution would’ve added it in.

Marble Race pay table

Marble Race operates a little differently than your standard online casino game, or rather, it acts more like a traditional casino game instead! Rather than having to worry about matching slot symbols or triggering mini-games, you simply place your bet on which colour you think will win - or come first and second respectively.

Winner: If you decide to bet on an outright winner, this will pay 4.75 to 1 and you can pick between Black, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green or White.

First and Second: If you want to go for higher odds, then you can place a wager on which colours will come first and second in the race. You can pick between any combination of colours and this will pay out 27 to 1.

Who made the Marble Race game?

The Marble Race Live game was created by Evolution, one of the biggest names in the gambling industry. This studio is behind some of the most popular online casino games, such as Crazy Time, Crazy Balls, Funky Time, Monopoly and Lightning Roulette. We have a full guide on Race Track available here, which is another one of their game show style casino games.

Founded in 2006, Evolution quickly grew into the titan it’s known to be today. In 2013, it opened its 100th live table at the Riga studios, making Evolution the largest single-site casino operation in Europe at that time - only for it to continue growing and expanding around the world!

Evolution debuted in the North American market in 2018 through an agreement with Unibet. Since then, the company has opened Live Casino studios in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan. You can find Evolution games at most licensed operators, but key ones include BetMGM, BetRivers and Caesars.

Marble Race features

Playing Marble Race is easier than you may think, thanks to Evolution’s simple UI and gameplay loop. The only thing you need to do as the player is select which marble you think will win the next race - or if you’re feeling particularly daring, select which marbles you think will come first and second.

To do this, press the chip denomination you want to use and then select the marble color you want to support. In some livestreams, you’ll be able to see how many players have picked which option, but as each run is random, there’s no hidden ways to win marble racing. This is very different when compared to something such as horse racing, where each horse has different odds of winning due to experience or past performances.

Once the betting section has finished, the marbles will be lined up at the start and the race will begin! Each marble will fight to stay in the lead as they battle their way down the custom-built obstacle course created by the team at Evolution. The ‘athletes’ will have to navigate through a chicane, then avoid the revolving Pacman-style cups before dinking down the pachinko board towards the finish line! It’s tense stuff, and if Evolution are willing to commit to multiple camera angles for each race, then it could be quite thrilling to watch, too!

The race is officially over after two marbles finish, as this is the maximum number of marbles players can bet on at any given moment. It’s all about the first and second podium positions, no-one cares about third place here. The winners will be automatically paid out, and the marbles line up to race again…

Does the Marble Race game offer free spins or bonus games?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Evolution has not included any game-enhancing features, such as free bets or bonus game modes. While it would’ve been sick to see the marbles trigger extra obstacles along the course, classic pinball machine style, this would’ve been a nightmare to regulate from a legal standpoint. There would’ve been too many moving parts that could go wrong and drastically affect the game.

For this reason, what you see at Marble Race is what you get. There are no surprises or extra mini-games hidden anywhere in the experience, which can be expected from some of Evolution’s other popular game show titles, such as Crazy Time.

Marble Race conclusion

Marble Race is a great addition to Evolution’s ever-growing library of live game show titles. There’s something effortlessly charming about the synergy between the hosts and the large props that facilitate the game, and this is something that Evolution is clearly aware of, too.

The Marble Race course is professionally designed with sleek angles and glowing LEDs, but there is also something almost cyberpunk about it. It’s obvious that the course was intentionally made matte grey so that the bright marbles were easier to see on the stream, but that doesn’t stop it from being a little oppressing all the same. It would’ve also been nice to have different courses in play, rather than watching the marbles race down the same course over and over again, but this is a minor point.

Overall, Marble Race finally gives us the chance to wager on the whacky internet phenomenon that became popular only a few years ago in a safe and regulated environment. This kind of innovation should always be applauded, as it’s this kind of thinking that keeps the industry moving forward - all while keeping the players happy and providing an experience that will be difficult to forget.
