If this is your first ‘Tome of’ game, then you might want to sit down and make yourself comfortable for this section, because there are a lot of gameplay features crammed into this title. With cascading reels, cluster wins and transforming symbols, each spin has the possibility to trigger a series of events.
Before we get into the gameplay features, it’s worth explaining the three kinds of Wilds you can encounter in this game. The first two are your standard Wilds and can appear at any point, while Ammit the Devourer is a Mega-Wild, so it is a lot rarer.
Altar Wilds: These are the backbone of the powers in Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead, as they are applied in all four levels of the counter. These act as your standard Wild slot symbols.
Multiplier Wilds: Rich Wilde doesn’t just appear on the side of the reels, as he also gets his own special symbol in the game too!
Ammit the Devourer Wild: This is a great mechanic, but it’s very difficult to activate. This Walking Wild can only be triggered at the end of the Ritual of Banishment if you manage to fill the meter in the top-left-hand corner. If you do, then the great beast himself will appear and act as a Super Wild for several turns! He’s a big boy too, a 2x2 Wild, for even more winning combinations.
The All-Seeing Eyes: Each spin, a new area on the board will be pinned with the All-Seeing Eye. If you managed to land a winning combination over one of these Eyes, then multiple Wilds will be scattered across the board.
In Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead, each winning combination will contribute towards the counter in the top left-hand corner. Starting at 48, each cluster of wins will place Altar Wilds onto the board and activate a different power.
Protection: If you manage to fill the first quarter, then you’ll activate the Protection power, which adds a few Altar Wilds onto the reels.
Devour: If you fill half of the counter, you’ll trigger Devour. This will remove a handful of symbols from the board, triggering an avalanche of new symbols.
Judgment: Filling three-quarters of the counter will activate Judgment. This is a fun one, as it upgrades the symbols on the board to the highest-paying ones.
Banishment: If you manage to fill up the counter to at least 48 (or beyond!), then you’ll enter the Ritual of Banishment mini-game…
Ritual of Banishment: This is the bonus game mode in Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead that sees you powering up the Ritual! This acts in a similar manner as the base game, where each winning combination will lead to more charges and these in turn will lend Rich Wilde more powers.
Each spin will launch some power, and if you manage to fill up all 48 of the charges, you’ll unleash Ammit the Devourer onto the board as a Super Wild!

Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead is a great homage to the series as it goes back to its roots. The original, Book of Dead, was released on 14 Jan 2016 - so while it would’ve been really neat to see this remake published exactly ten years afterwards, we won’t complain about getting it early!
This new online slot weaves in the iconic ‘Tome of’ mechanics, such as charging up rituals and using powers to alter the symbols on the slots, into the classic symbols from the original game - and they work well together! It feels natural, and if you’re new to online slots, you probably won’t even realise this is a remake at all.
That being said, if you’re not a fan of the ‘Tome of’ mechanics, then this can be quite a disappointing release. These mechanics are heavy and permeate throughout the entire time. You could go as far to say that the ritual charging mechanic defines these experiences, so if you were looking for a quiet and relaxing slot game, then this isn’t the one for you.
