Miroslaw Drzewiecki resigned on Monday after accusations that he used his position to influence a new gambling law on behalf of the gambling industry.
Drzewiecki, the Sports Minister in Poland, resigned after his name appeared on documents in relation to an anti-corruption investigation that had been conveniently given the code name Â"Operation BlackjackÂ".
As he posted his resignation a statement was added to his personal website which stated Â"when all the facts related to changes in the gambling law will be clarified, it will turn out that I was wrongly accusedÂ".
He claims that his resignation was so that Prime Minister Donald Tusks reputation would not be effected by the scandal. Tusk accepted the DrzewieckiÂ's decision.
The law in question is intended to raise taxes on the gambling industry to cover Poland who are struggling to pay for the upcoming Euro 2012 competition that they are co-hosting with Ukraine.
