The superstar wide receiver signed a three-year extension worth up to $73.5m.
With a deal that is worth up to $73.5m, Deebo Samuel is sticking around with the San Francisco 49ers for another three years.
This deal keeps the 49ers’ wide receiver happy and will help San Francisco keep its offense intact. Samuel is the seventh wideout this offseason to sign a deal worth at least $24 million per year.
Although many wondered about when the deal would go through, Niners GM John Lynch believed that they’d come to terms eventually.
Before the signing, Lynch commented: “We've had really productive and substantive talks.
“I don't want to get everyone all excited that something is imminent because we're not there yet, but really hopeful that in the near future we'll be able to announce something that is exciting for everyone involved.”
In conclusion, Lynch said: “Deebo is here today and we're excited about moving forward with him as part of this team.”
Through the 2021-22 season, Samuel averaged a league-leading 18.2 yards per catch and 6.2 yards on each carry while scoring a total of 14 touchdowns.
He ranked third in the NFL in scrimmage yards at 1,770 and received All-Pro honors. He did this by becoming a dual-threat, playing both wide receiver and running back.
We expect that the 49ers will use him in a similar way this season as well. Since it worked so well last year, there’s no reason why it wouldn’t be productive in 2022.
Through just three NFL seasons, Samuel has 167 receptions for 2,598 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns along with 550 rushing yards and 11 TDs on the ground.
