MLB Picks of the Day: August 5th Picks & Predictions
Ricky Gray | August 5, 2022
Today, we'll cover the Braves at the Mets and the Padres at the Dodgers.
There are a ton of games across Major League Baseball but two, in particular, caught our attention. An NL East matchup and an NL West game are what we’ll cover today.
Atlanta Braves at New York Mets - 7:10 PM ET
With a record of 63-43 this season, the Atlanta Braves rank second in the NL East. Today, they’ll continue their series against the New York Mets after suffering a 6-4 loss yesterday. Getting the start tonight is the 9-6 Ian Anderson.
Anderson has an ERA of 4.99 this season after pitching 101 innings. Against the Mets batters, however, this ERA could put the Braves in a bind. The Mets will send out Taijuan Walker who has an incredible 9-2 record with an ERA of 2.79.
Considering the Mets have the advantage when it comes to pitching, we like them a bit more in this one. It also helps that the Mets have one of the best batting teams in the league with a team batting average of .257.
Ricky’s Pick: New York Mets -155
San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers - 10:10 PM ET
The next game we’re going to look at is the San Diego Padres who will face the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres have a 61-47 record this season and are 30-24 on the road. An important note is they also have Juan Soto in the lineup tonight.
Sean Manaea will get the start tonight with a record of 6-5 and an ERA of 4.25. Through 110 innings, Manaea has thrown 111 strikeouts and allowed 18 home runs. The Dodgers are starting a strong pitcher of their own in Tony Gonsolin.
Gonsolin has a record of 12-1 with an impressive 2.41 ERA. Gonsolin’s backed up by some of the best batters in the league, with a team average of .258. Los Angeles is incredible at stealing bases and has scored 551 runs this season. We’ve got to take the home team in this one.
Ricky’s Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -160
