The shortstop was suspended for 80 games due to a PED ban.

San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin had a “private conversation” with Padres superstar Fernando Tatis in regard to a recent performance-enhancing drug (PED) ban.

Tatis has been suspended for 80 games after violating this ban which keeps him away from the team for even longer. This resulted in a few players having comments on the situation.

Asked by a reporter whether he would want Tatis to speak to his teammates about what happened, Melvin replied: "I don't know where and when that would potentially happen, so I'm not sure at this point.”

Some teammates have been rather critical of Tatis, including pitcher Mike Clevinger.

In a post-game conference, Clevinger said he was “disappointed” in Tatis and that he hopes he realizes “it's about more than just him right now.”

Clevinger has a 4-4 record as a pitcher this season with an ERA of 3.47. His most recent game resulted in a 6-0 win over the Washington Nationals.

However, Clevinger might’ve stepped too far when speaking on Tatis when he said: “We really don’t need anybody else in this clubhouse.”

Perhaps some players on the team have forgotten that Tatis led the National League with 42 home runs last season. They might’ve also forgotten that they’re 16-games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lead in the NL West.

Frankly, the San Diego Padres need Fernando Tatis and will be without him for another 80 games. During that time, they’ll be forced to stand on their own two feet.

After recently being swept by the Dodgers in a three-game series (one of which had Clevinger as the starting pitcher) we’re sure the team would’ve appreciated having Tatis in the lineup.
