Sic bo – How to win, best strategies, best odds

sic-bo-strategy
Sic bo is a simple dice betting game, played using three dice that are rolled by the dealer. Although the felt betting table might look complicated at first, it’s only because there are so many different outcomes you can bet on. The total combination of the dice, whether pairs will come out, whether it’ll be a high or a low number, etc.

How to play Sic bo

Luckily, the game of Sic bo is very easy to understand. This is especially true because, unlike with games such as poker or blackjack, you don't need to do anything as the player. The dealer will do all of the tricky work, so all you need to focus on is which wager you want to place.

This is done by placing your chips inside the box that is relevant to your bets. Some of them will require more precise placements than others, such as if you're betting on a specific 'triple bet' combination.

Then the dealer will shake the dice and announce the results, paying out any winners and pulling in any losing bets.

It couldn't be any simpler, right?

How to win at Sic bo

You might be wondering how to win at Sic bo; after all, it's a game of chance, isn't it? Well, yes, while that may be true, there are always strategies you can use to enhance your time at the table. Just look at all of the strategies roulette has accumulated over the years. Similarly, the best ways to win here will revolve around how you bet, rather than anything you can do to directly influence the dice themselves.

As this is a game of chance, however; it is important to note that no solid Sic bo betting strategy can guarantee any kind of wins for you. As heartbreaking as that is, it's the truth. That won't stop us from giving you a bunch of handy tips you can utilise next time you're at the tables, though!

Best Sic bo winning strategies

The below tips can help guide you through this game of chance, whether you're a beginner at the game or a seasoned Sic bo pro.

   1. Don't bet on too many areas per round

It can be easy to get carried away with Sic bo; it's a simple game that can have very fast betting rounds. You might want to get the most out of each round by spreading your bets across the table because, well, one of them has to hit at some point, right?

Wrong! Even though you can place multiple bets while playing Sic bo, it's important to pace yourself properly. You can bet across dozens of avenues and not have a single bet come in. This is why it's important to formulate a plan before you even get to the table and stick to it.

   2. Bet low and bet steadily

As we just explained, it can be all too easy to use up all of your chips in a few rounds of Sic bo, after all, those rounds are fast! If you want to get involved with the game, then you need to understand chip management. By using low denominations and limiting how many areas you're betting in, you can really maximise your time at the table.

Another great recommendation is not to feel pressured to play each round. If you're deciding whether or not to make a particular bet, or simply trying to reorder your chip stacks, don't rush and throw in any old bet. Take the time to get your head clear and make each bet with clear intention and thought - there will always be another round of Sic bo, after all.

3. Great wagers come in all packages

The Big and Small bets in Sic bo are some of the easiest to understand. A 'small' bet is the combination of dice totalling between 4 and 10, and 'big' bet is anything between 11 and 17. But don't forget that if any 'triple' comes in, this is voided!

Big and small bets usually pay 1:1 odds and have a house edge of 2.78%, the lowest in the game. Due to the 'triple' rule, the probability of success sits at just under 50/50, at a very respectable 48.61%.

So, if you're starting out at the Sic bo tables, or even if you just want a less intense night at the table, these are the ones you're going to want to pick. They will be the option with the highest RTP chances, and even though you might not win big with that 1:1 payout, you won't have to deal with wild odds, either. Slow and steady wins the race!

4. Don't 'outsmart' the dice and don't fall for patterns

At the end of the day, Sic bo is a game of chance. There is no kind of skill involved with rolling the dice, and some casinos even have a device that rolls the dice for them, similar to when shuffling cards.

As easy as it can be to get into the zone and think you're noticing patterns in the dice results, you cannot wager on this. If three 'big' bets come in, there's no guarantee that the next handful will be 'small' ones to balance it out. Sure, it can be fun to notice these things and perhaps even bet small amounts out of curiosity; but don't stake big amounts on it.

This is one of the easiest ways you can lose chips while playing Sic bo and it's also one of the quickest ways you can stop having fun at the table. Remember, take it slow, try to make your chips last and try to enjoy the game responsibly!
